Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam - Tree Plantation Drive

About the Initiative

"Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam" is a national initiative launched by the Government of India to encourage citizens to plant a tree in honor of their mothers- turning emotional connection into climate commitment. The movement taps into personal sentiment and transforms it into collective action for a greener, healthier future.

Aligned with this national vision, Honda India Foundation (HIF) on 2nd Aug’25 joined hands with HSIIDC to implement tree plantation drives across Haryana. The objective is to contribute to expanding green cover, improving local environmental conditions, and mobilizing communities toward climate action under a government-led campaign.

This partnership is especially critical as India faces record-breaking temperatures, shrinking urban green cover, rising air quality concerns, and expanding heat islands. Tree plantations today are not symbolic gestures - they are essential interventions that:

  • Enhance biodiversity
  • Improve ambient air quality
  • Reduce surface temperatures
  • Strengthen community engagement with nature
  • Support long-term environmental resilience

Through this collaboration, HIF reinforces its commitment to environmental sustainability while aligning with national priorities.

Program Impact
Plantation Drive Outcomes
  • 4,000 trees planted at IMT Manesar during the drive’s launch week
  • 5,000 saplings handed over for further plantation through the Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB)
  • 24,750 trees planted across all HMSI plant locations as part of the broader campaign

These plantations contribute significantly to improving green cover around industrial and community zones, supporting Honda’s commitment to greener ecosystems.

Next Phase - Sustained Care & Community Participation

To ensure long-term survival and meaningful impact, HIF is introducing the following:

  • QR-coded monitoring of each sapling for survival tracking
  • School and community engagement drives for tree adoption
  • Mobile-linked updates for sapling health
  • Educational plaques at plantation locations
  • Development of “Green Corners” in community and public spaces

This transforms the plantation activity from a one-day event into an ongoing, community-driven environmental stewardship program.
