Lack of suitable designated space for students consuming the meals provided in Government schools as part of the mid-day meal scheme, makes it difficult and unsafe for the pupils to eat in schools. Schools often have constraints such as lack of covered space, unclean surroundings, weather conditions and lack of basic hygiene in the premises. This also often leads to littering in the classrooms by the children consuming their meals.

We observed this challenge and initiated the construction of sheds at Government schools in Vithalapur and Keshavpura in Ahmedabad district, Gujarat. Post completion, these spaces were duly handed over to the respective principals in these schools. Since then, 600 students have been benefitting daily from these designated spaces to consume their meals comfortably and safely.
